Midnight Cowboy (USA 1969)

The situation seems to be helpless for out two protagonists

Cast: Dustin Hoffman, Jon Voight, Viva
Director: John Schlesinger

This is one of the most depressing movies ever made. Dustin Hoffman outstandingly plays a crippled N.Y. con man who gets the only friend of former dish washer Joe Buck. Joe is convinced that he can use his sexual prowess to satisfy all of the rich New York women who don't know what real loving from a real man is like. He soon finds out, that it's not as easy as he thought...
This movie is the best example of the acting qualities of Dustin Hoffman. Two years after his debut in The Graduate, he plays a poor pitiable creature with a remarkably jumpy walk. Director John Schlesinger captures the grime and slime and reality of New York with great geniality.Hoffman and Voight were both nominated as best actor in 1969, but lost to John Wayne. The movie won the directing, writing and best picture oscars. It is the only X-rated (Explicit language. Scrabble?) picture ever to win an Oscar as best movie to the year. The rating was later chaged to R. And today? Maybe PG-13...
